The Muzeum Moravských bratří (Moravian Brethren Museum) in Suchdol nad Odrou

The Muzeum Moravských bratří (Moravian Brethren Museum) in Suchdol nad Odrou is located in a typical rural structure. Tourists can thus get an idea of how people lived and farmed in the villages of Moravské Kravařsko.

The museum’s main exhibit is dedicated to the events preceding the departure into exile of the Moravian Brethren in the early 18th century.

This was when approximately 280 residents, all followers of the teachings of John Amos Comenius, left Suchdol nad Odrou because of their faith. They found a new home in Upper Lusatia, where they founded the city of Herrnhut, Ochranov in Czech (“place of protection”). There, they revived the Unity of the Brethren, and dedicated themselves to missionary work.

The rooms of the former rentcharge residence are dedicated to the Unity of the Brethren, and the former barn presents the new missionary work of the Moravian Brethren, who continue to dedicate themselves to evangelisation in many countries worldwide.
