A fairy tale tour of the birth house of Johann Gregor Mendel

The house where founder of genetics and scientist Johann Gregor Mendel was born is one of the most popular monuments in Moravské Kravařsko, and is a part of Pohádkové Poodří (Fairy tale Poodří).

Mendel conducted his genetics research through the cultivation of peas. You can refresh your knowledge in the company of the fairy tale character Kulihrášek, who will guide you through the birth house of this genius.

You can recognise Kulihrášek by his hat, made from a pea pod. He is very clever, and learned from Mendel himself during his experiments with cultivation. He escorts tourists between the birth house of Johann Gregor Mendel and Mendelův kaštan (Mendel’s Chestnut Tree) that grows on the hill overlooking Hynčice.
